Job Description: |
A Medical Scribe is responsible for documenting physician-patient encounters in real time during medical examinations. The role requires strong attention to detail and a working knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and the healthcare documentation process. Medical Scribes help improve efficiency and accuracy in clinical documentation, enabling providers to focus more on direct patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Accurately and efficiently document patient histories, physical examinations, procedures, diagnostic results, and treatment plans under the supervision of a physician.
Navigate and enter information into Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems during patient visits.
Assist physicians with real-time charting and completion of medical documentation.
Review and update patient charts and documentation to ensure completeness and compliance with regulatory standards.
Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times.
Track and document lab orders, prescriptions, imaging results, and follow-up instructions as directed by the physician.
Communicate effectively with physicians and other healthcare staff to ensure the clarity and accuracy of medical records.
Stay updated with medical coding, terminology, and documentation requirements.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a pre-medical or health sciences field (preferred) or ongoing education in a medical-related field.
Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures.
Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) is a plus.
Strong typing speed (at least 50 WPM) and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
High level of professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Previous experience as a medical scribe, transcriptionist, or in a clinical support role.
Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare documentation regulations.
Willingness to work evening or weekend shifts, depending on clinic hours.
